Who She Was

Her Story

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved wife, daughter, sister, granddaughter and friend, Angela Paj Ci Ly Cooke, 23, of Tetonia, Idaho, who passed Oct. 19, 2010, due to complications following a car accident. She took with her their first unborn child, to be named Wylie Koob Hmoov. Angela leaves behind her loving husband, Kyle Cooke.

Angela was born Sept. 9, 1987, to Kao and Kia Ly of Cottage Grove, Minn. She was the third of four children, the others being Gabriel (Kayla) Ly of Cottage Grove, Christina (Michael) Ross of Rexburg and Anthony of Cottage Grove. She grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Park High School in 2005, where she enjoyed art and was an excellent student. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the Asian Club.

She chose to further her education by attending Brigham Young University-Idaho, where she studied biology. She was currently enrolled in the sociology program and attended dental assistant courses in Idaho Falls. She was active in the Southeast Asian Association.

Angela met her future husband, Kyle, in a provident living class at BYU-Idaho. Although their time was short, they cherished each and every moment they spent together. They loved to travel together, starting with their honeymoon in the Bahamas and trips to Minnesota, Las Vegas, Niagara Falls and the Bahamas a second time. They could often be found visiting and helping family and friends, attending temple sessions, riding horses, hunting and even shopping. More of Angela’s favorite passions were shoes and polished nails. Angela was always a very positive and loving person.

Angela and Kyle were married in the Rexburg LDS Temple on Nov. 8, 2008. They made their home in Rexburg while they both attended college and then moved to Tetonia this spring. Their long-awaited first child was to be born in February.

Angela was employed at Grand Teton Dental Care in Victor. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many callings, but truly enjoyed her Primary and Sunday school callings.

Cooking was one of Angela’s many talents, and her expertise was Asian cuisine. Angela could make a “wicked” egg roll. She loved her family deeply and had a special affection for her nieces and nephews: Adilyn and Kaleb Ross of Rexburg; Benjamin and Eric Ly of Cottage Grove; and Matilda, Gabriel, Jakoby and Weston Sorensen of Rexburg.

She is also survived by her in-laws, Brett and Anita Cooke of Driggs and their children, Stacy Cooke of Ogden, Leslie (Travis) Sorensen of Rexburg, Craig (Sylvia) Cooke of Rexburg, Sadie Cooke of Driggs and Jesse Cooke, who is currently serving in the Lithuania/Baltic LDS Mission.

Her grandparents are Larry and Murrel Cooke of Victor and Marie Huntington of Tacoma, Wash.
