Who She Was
Her Story
Brianna Janel Gibson Pizzino, 29, Danville, VA formerly of Oceana, WV went to be with the Lord July 28, 2010 during childbirth. She was God’s servant while here on Earth. She first gave her heart to God in April 1991 and from that time on worked in mostly children’s ministries starting with: Baghdad, KY; Waterbury, CT; Rock Hill SC and Lake Charles, LA. She then worked with the Awanas at her home church in Danville, VA. She taught Science at WW Moore and in this position she showed love and compassion for the children that she taught, trying to show them that there is a brighter path to follow. As a servant of God she tried to look out for everyone she knew, from organizing and providing meals for new mother’s or to anyone who just needed some extra care. Her desire was for unity among all Christians and her passion was missions with the desire to see the gospel spread throughout the world.
As a wife, Brianna was a perfect example of Proverbs 31 which explains that “A truly good wife is the most precious treasure a man can find! Also, charm can be deceiving, and beauty fades away, but a woman who honors the Lord deserves to be praised. Show her respect – praise her in public for what she has done.”
As a daughter she was a blessing, never giving her parents any problems always striving to do good. A daughter who enjoyed doing things with her Mom. She enjoyed talking to her Dad and discussing Bible with him.
As a sister she was a best friend who could always be counted on as a shoulder to lean on or someone to walk life’s pathway beside of. Her beauty, wisdom and knowledge will always be cherished. Mrs. Brianna Pizzino began her teaching career as a science teacher at W. W. Moore, Jr. Juvenile Detention Home on January 27, 2003 just fresh out of college. Over the past seven years I have watched her grow into a gifted teacher with a special love for young people. Brianna had an unquenchable desire to make a difference in the lives of the students she taught. She would do special things for them like bake brownies and make her famous dirt cake. One student said “Mrs. Pizzino knew how to make learning fun for kids and she loved us”. Her students may not remember everything she taught them but they will never forget how special she made them feel. As a colleague, she was always professional and a team player who got along with everyone. As a sister in Christ, she was strong in her faith and I could call on her at any time to whisper a prayer. I not only called her a devoted teacher, I called her a friend.
As a co-worker Brianna always put the education of her students first. She was a planner, a team player, and a loving and compassionate soul. Brianna worked each day reflecting to her co-workers and students the peace and joy that comes from loving our Lord. She was a professional serving as a role model to her students and colleagues. She loved her subject area of science which was shown through her lesson plans, activities and dedication. Her strong faith was evident through her actions and good deeds! As a friend, Brianna was quick to form a bond of friendship. It was a blessing in my life to have known her. I will forever praise our Lord for giving me this gift if only for such a short while.
“We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.”
Brianna was born October 7, 1980 in Beckley, WV. She was the daughter of Eric Leonard Gibson and Connie Osborne Gibson of Oceana, WV. Brianna was a 1998 graduate of Oceana High School, a 2003 graduate of Alice Lloyd College, and graduated in 2006 with a Masters degree from Averett University. She was currently working towards her Doctorate Degree from Liberty University and had worked as a Science teacher at WW Moore for 7 years. She formerly attended Bible Baptist Church in WV and was a faithful member of Westover Baptist Church. She enjoyed scrapbooking, reading, studying God’s word, playing the piano, spending time with family and was looking forward to the birth of her daughter, Jaina Faye.
Brianna was preceded in death by her brother, Brett Gibson; paternal grandparents Andrew and Kathleen Toler Gibson; maternal grandmother, Faye Cline; maternal great-grandparents Sanford and Josie Osborne; and uncles Roger and Randy Gibson.
In addition to her parents, those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jason DeWayne Pizzino and daughter Jaina Faye at home; a sister, Erica Webb and her husband Joey of Kopperston, WV.; a step-grandfather, Tommy Cline of Oceana, WV; mother-in-law Edna Pizzino of Glen Fork, WV; father-in-law Johnny Pizzino of McGraws, WV.; brother-in-law, Burton Pizzino and sister-in-law, Vanessa of Glen Fork, WV.; a grandfather-in-law Bert Pizzino and wife Velma of Glenn Fork, WV.; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and dear friends.
