Her Story
Amanda Ireland Ward, 33, died Saturday, October 1, 2016, shortly after giving birth to her daughter Ava Lynn Ward. She is the beloved wife of Preston Ward. She is the daughter of Clint and Jeanie Ireland and sister to Christopher Pendry (Rachel Pendry) and the proud aunt of Conner Pendry.
Born on December 3, 1982 in Winston-Salem, Mandy received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Master’s degree in Sociology with a focus on Criminology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She loved the outdoors and was an avid runner and backpacker. She was adored by everyone that knew her and she lit up the room everywhere she went. She was a passionate baker, making lots of chocolate chip cookies for her officers at the Greensboro Police Department.
Mandy helped countless children and families through her work with the Kellin Foundation and as the lead advocate for the Greensboro Child Response Initiative. In May, Mandy received the 2016 Chief’s Award from the Greensboro Police Department for her incredible impact in the Greensboro community. She also received the 2014 Lindy Beauregard Champion for Children Award.
Short in stature but mighty in strength, Mandy’s impact will continue to touch us all. She will be greatly missed.
