Ashley Heaney Butler, 31 of Bayville passed away on September 21, 2016 in Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Ashley lived in Ocean Township most of her life, before moving to Bayville. She was a graduate of Mater Dei High School, Middletown and Rutgers University and UMDNJ. She worked for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Neptune and was President of the state NJRA.
Ashley’s passions included playing softball and being at the ocean and her work. She was a fastpitch softball pitcher from age 11 into her adult years playing youth travel ball, high school ball, and college ball. She truly enjoyed the competition and all of the wonderful relationships she developed with teammates, coaches, umpires, and competitors.She loved going to the ocean with her husband Joe, either to fish or crab or even just hang out while he fished. She loved to walk along the shoreline with Joe and appreciate the beauty of the ocean. She was obsessed with anchors and they adorn every wall in her home in Bayville.
Ashley absolutely loved her work as a rehabilitative counselor. She worked at the DRV in Trenton prior to her transfer to Neptune. She also did Superstorm Sandy Recovery Counseling in Monmouth County working with FEMA on weekends while also working her full time position. She made wonderful lasting relationships with coworkers that she cherished. As the young President of the New Jersey Rehabilitation Association she brought the organization an enthusiastic boost planning unique meetings at locations like the Silverball Pinball Museum in Asbury Park.
Ashley is survived by her husband, Joseph C. Butler, her son, James Joseph Butler; her parents: James and Donna Heaney of Wayside; her brother, Colin Heaney and his wife, Christine of Ocean Township; her nephew and niece, Aidan and Eagan Heaney, Mother-in-Law Frances Butler, Brother-in-Law Frank Butler and girlfriend Hayley Beekman, Sister-in-Law Donna Hoffman and husband Bill, Sister-in-Law Jennifer Cavanagh and husband Brian, nephews Alex and Brody Hoffman, Brian and Dylan Cavanagh and niece Gina Hoffman and many other relatives and friends.
