J’La Maria Jimenez, 20, of Rochester, NY, passed away on October 18, 2024. Born on June 10, 2004, J’La was known for her vibrant spirit and kind heart. Her infectious laugh and grand love left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was expecting her first child with Adrian Colbert and was hoping for a boy.
J’La attended Eugenio Maria De Hostos Charter School and Churchville-Chili Middle School, followed by Arcadia High School. Throughout her educational journey, J’La was admired for her curiosity and encouraging nature.
She is survived by her mother, Alina Jarrell, stepfather Rashid Jarrell, father, Hector Jimenez, and stepmother Megan Murphy. J’La was a cherished sister to Enrique Vazquez, Hector Jimenez, Jeremiah Jimenez, Joshua Jarrell, Jordan Jarrell, Alondra Vazquez, Celicia Vazquez, Nina Jarrell, Barbara Johnson, Gloria Johnson, and Maria Jimenez. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Gloria Ruiz Torres, paternal grandmother Maria A. Santiago, and paternal aunt Wanda Jimenez.
J’La was the favorite aunt, best friend, and beloved sister. Her commitment to good behavior and candid nature in discouraging the opposite were hallmarks of her character. J’La’s legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her to strive for their best.
