Who She Was

Her Story

Megan Hays Gibb died unexpectedly in her home on February 6, 2024 at the age of 31. She was pregnant and near full term with her daughter, Bridget Ruth Gibb. Sadly, after an emergency delivery, Bridget passed on February 7, 2024 surrounded by her father, Connor Gibb, of Reston, VA, grandparents, and other family members.

Megan Hays Gibb, maiden name Megan Marie Hays, was born in Rockville, MD on October 28, 1992 to Christopher and Gretchen Hays. After graduating near the top in her class at The Academy of Holy Cross high school in Kensington, MD, she would go on to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she earned her Bachelors in Civil Engineering and her Masters in Structural Engineering. Megan then moved to Seattle, WA in 2016 to join the firm of Magnusson Klemencic Associates (MKA) and later Graham Construction in 2020. It was in Seattle that she met her husband, Connor, in her parish’s bible study. After 3.5 years of dating, the two would go on to be married on December 10, 2022 at St. Dominic’s Church in Washington, DC. About a year later the couple would announce that Megan was pregnant with their daughter, Bridget Ruth. In January of 2024, Megan and Connor relocated to Reston, VA to be closer to family.

A devout catholic, Megan was very active at St. Joseph’s Parish in Seattle. She was a loving friend, sister, daughter, and wife. Megan was very proud of her work as a Structural Engineer and Project Manager. Some of her engineering projects included Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Chase Center in San Francisco, and Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland.

Megan was a lifelong athlete, growing up playing soccer and lacrosse. It was in high school that she discovered her love for rugby. After years of playing at the high school, college, and adult level, Megan retired from the sport in 2017. She would go on to be an assistant coach of the Seattle Mudhens women’s team and eventually a coach of the Panthers Youth Rugby Club. By all accounts, Megan was an excellent athlete, coach, and loved by all her teams.

Megan is survived by her husband, Connor, her parents, Christopher and Gretchen, and her younger brother, Nicholas (Libby).

Bridget is also survived by her father, Connor, her grandparents, Fred, Renée, Christopher, and Gretchen, and her uncles, Logan and Nicholas (Libby).
