Her Story
Tania Frances Burns Sicard, 27, of Al Monty Drive, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010, of complications associated with pregnancy and other health issues, along with her unborn son, Gunther “Gunny” Sicard, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
Born on Aug. 28, 1982, in Waterville, Maine, she was the daughter of Gregory and Gisele (Fortin) Richards. She attended elementary school in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School in 2001. She went on to graduate from Wheaton College in Norton, Mass., in 2005, with a bachelor’s of art degree in philosophy. At the time of her death, she was working toward her master’s degree at TUI University in emergency disaster management.
Tania began work as an EMT and then became a paramedic with EasCare in Dorchester, Mass., Mercy General Ambulance in Brighton, Mass., and Fallon Ambulance in Quincy, Mass. During the aftermath of Hurricane Rita in 2005, she had volunteered in the relief efforts in Texas for several weeks.
Tania loved the outdoors, was an avid snowboarder, and enjoyed hiking, jogging and mountain biking. She was competitive swimmer and was an enthusiastic student of learning. She shared her life with her family and many friends and will be dearly missed.
Prior to her marriage, she had spent several months living in Israel. On Dec. 5, 2009, she married Joseph Edward Sicard at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe. Following their wicked awesome wedding, they made their home on Al Monty Drive in Barre Town.
Survivors include her husband, Joe “Boston” Sicard; her daughter, Falyn Sicard; her parents, Gregory “Greg” and Gisele Richards, all of Barre Town; her stepson, Hunter McCabe of Quincy, Mass.; a sister, Lisa, and her husband, Charles Byers III, and their children, Charles Byers IV and Lilliana Byers, all of Winslow, Maine; her maternal grandparents, Gerard and Theresa Fortin of Waterville, Maine; her paternal grandmother, Gertrude O’Brien of Rangeley, Maine; aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Gerald Richards and her paternal step-grandfather, Cal O’Brien.
