Her Story
Erin Mogensen, beloved wife and best friend of Alex Mogensen, tragically passed on November 2, 2023. Erin, 32 years old, lived in Wauwatosa with Alex and Lambeau, their lovable rescue dog.
Erin always spoke of having a family of her own and on the morning of October 14, 2023, she woke her husband up to the most exciting news that they had ever received. They were going to have a baby.
Erin was the precious daughter of Mark Hagen and Ruth Ehrgott. She was born on June 18, 1991, and grew up in Shorewood, Wisconsin. She is survived by her adored sister Sarah Drew, brother-in-law Mike Drew, nephew Ryan, and niece Amelia. Erin was blessed to join the Mogensen family and is survived by father-in-law James Mogensen, mother-in-law Angie Mogensen, sister-in-law Sara Schadeberg, and Michael Schadeberg.
Erin attended Atwater Elementary School, Shorewood Intermediate School, and graduated from Shorewood High in 2009.
Erin always lived life to the fullest, from her volunteer work at the Milwaukee County Zoo, running cross country, playing the viola, enjoying performance arts, playing board games with Alex and friends, and her many travels to Disney World, where she also completed a culinary internship in 2013.
Erin was an enthusiastic member of the Shorewood Girls Cross Country and Track teams. Erin looked forward to every meet and practice. While never a threat to the race leaders, Erin was a spirited member of the team throughout her years at Shorewood Intermediate School and as a Greyhound.
Erin attended the MATC Culinary Arts Program after graduating high school, where she deepened her love of cooking and also happened to meet the love of her life: Alex Mogensen. They started dating during their tenure at MATC and fell in love with each other. Throughout her life, she shared her love of food with many through her loving preparation of meals and desserts, including an annual chocolate-pecan pie for Alex’s birthday. Family members came to rely on Erin for cooking tips and techniques in the kitchen.
Erin and Alex were married on November 2, 2019. It was a magical day filled with their love of one another amongst their family and close friends. Both would come to speak of the day as the best day of their life.
Erin started playing the Viola in 5th grade and continued through Intermediate and High School, where she had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel abroad and perform in the Czech Republic and Austria with the Shorewood High School Orchestra. Later, she joined the UW-Milwaukee Community Orchestra. She loved the challenge of learning new compositions and enjoyed participating in live performances. She enjoyed performing for friends and family and especially enjoyed performing pieces from some of her favorite movie soundtracks.
Her love of music extended into enjoying Broadway musicals. She took great pride and pleasure in converting her friends and family into fans of various musicals such as Come From Away, Six, and American Idiot. She enjoyed not just the shows but cherished the time together with those who meant the most to her.
Spending time with friends and family was the greatest joy of Erin’s life. She particularly loved to travel throughout the United States and internationally with family and friends.
Erin’s love of Disney World extended to infinity, and beyond a galaxy far, far away. She spent months planning and excitedly preparing with her family over every detail of upcoming trips from food to rides, to being at each and every Disney Park at rope drop and staying until the very end.
In January 2016, Erin completed the 5K, 10K, and half-marathon, each run-on Disney property on consecutive days. She was elated with her achievement and celebrated with one of her favorites, a Mickey-Mouse Ice Cream Bar with her family.
On January 27, 2018, while on Alex’s first time along with the family on vacation in Disney World he proposed while at EPCOT which she viewed as her favorite of all the parks. The couple would often vacation in Disney World even honeymoon there and on a Disney Cruise in January of 2020.
Erin always had a love of all animals and had a deep commitment to the ethical treatment of all beings. She recently began volunteering at the Milwaukee County Zoo where she particularly enjoyed assisting with enrichment activities for young people.
Erin became an organ donor in line with her unwavering belief in helping other people above all else. As a result of her decision, up to 60 individuals in need are facing the prospect of a brighter and happier future. Erin’s compassion will continue to improve the world she cared so much about, and she never stopped thinking about those in need.
