Who She Was

Her Story

Amber L. Schauer, 21, died suddenly on Thursday, July 21, 2005 at Avera McKennan Hospital of early pregnancy complications. Amber was looking forward to the birth of her baby daughter, Madsen Lee Schauer.

Amber Lynne Schauer, daughter of Randy and Sheri (Thielsen) Schauer, was born July 26, 1983 at Watertown, SD. Amber was born with Spinal Bifida and spent a majority of her life in and out of the hospital. At a very early age the family moved to Sturgis, SD where they lived until Amber was 14 years old. The family then moved to Brandon, SD where Amber graduated from Brandon Valley High School in 2002. She enjoyed working part-time as a receptionist for Sioux Vocational Services.

Amber always had a smile and a joke and a great sense of humor. While in Sturgis, SD, she got a kiss on the cheek from Bruce Willis while he was filming a movie. Her time spent in Children’s Care Hospital and School, Shriner’s Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, and Avera McKennan Hospital with all the caring staff will be remembered for a lifetime. She was an excellent artist. At the age of 9, Amber had a stroke which caused her to relearn how to write and to draw. Amber loved to play Phase 10 card game, Scrabble, listening to music group, KON, the Renaissance Festivals, and collecting dragons for good luck.

Grateful for having shared her life are her parents, Randy and Sheri Schauer, Sioux Falls, SD; three brothers, Joshua and Jesse Schauer, Sioux Falls, SD, Matt Schauer, Minneapolis, MN; maternal grandparents, George and Janice Thielsen, Wilmot, SD; paternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Joan and Chuck Mardian, Sioux Falls, SD; three uncles, Dave Thielsen and his wife, Joy, Kirkland, WA, Dan Thielsen and his wife, Kristy, Aberdeen, SD, Alan Schauer and his wife, Tena, Rapid City, SD; an aunt, Lisa Brown and (Marv Kosick), Rapid City, SD; seven cousins, Kristin and Ben Thielsen, Allison Thielsen, Christy and Adam Kuharski, Michael Brown and Alan Schauer Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
