Who She Was
Her Story
Our beloved Laura Ervin Mele passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025 at her home in Stevensville. She was born in Tucson, Arizona on August 19, 1986, and grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Laura was a beautiful soul and an incredible warrior who survived a heart transplant to witness the growth of her son Gabriel for seven wonderful years. She loved caring for animals, and as a young girl she rescued too many to count. Laura spent her professional life as a skilled veterinary technician and she forged deep connections with her patients and pets, earning their trust with ease and applying her compassion with great skill.
Two months after the birth of her son, Laura received her new heart. The love she held in her heart for those around her never diminished. Above all else, Laura’s world revolved around Gabriel. He was the light of her life, and her devotion to him was boundless. She was his relentless advocate and champion, and she raised him to be polite, honest, and wise.
Laura was gifted with a wonderful sense of humor and knew how to turn their everyday activities into adventures. She had a fierce spirit and, like all the women in her family, a strong will and readiness to voice her convictions. She loved family gatherings and celebrations.
Laura was a devoted mother, a beautiful daughter, a loving sister, and a wonderful friend who shined a light into the world that will be greatly missed. She was a loving and caring mother, daughter, and sister, and a friend who was always willing to try something new. Laura brought her light, her joy, her laughter and her honesty to so many lucky people. Laura loved life. She loved being a mother more than anything, and also enjoyed nature, animals, the ocean and the Bay, swimming, sailboarding, and visiting family and friends. Her love was fierce, fighting for those she loved and those in need of a champion. Her heart was big, wide, and open to the world.
Laura was strong, fierce, sweet, bold, determined, and kind. Rest easy, Laura —you made the world a brighter and better place.
Her loss is mourned by her beloved son Gabriel, her parents Richard and Karen Ervin, her sister Rebecca Kern (Will) and their daughters Cora and Violet, her sister in law Brittany Mele (Anthony) and their son Anders; Braden Mele; all of her many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom she adored; and her many good friends.
She was preceded by her grandparents George and Dorothy Deighan, Mona and Bill Volante, Chuck ‘Pop’ Baker, and Harry and Sally Ervin; her mother-in-law Cathy Shingles; and her aunts Ellen Connors Ervin and Judy Deighan Faulkner.
