Her Story

Libby, 37, passed away on January 14, 2006 in Burlingame, CA due to complications following a stroke after giving birth to her beautiful baby girl, Kira Rae Forsberg, on January 11, 2006. Libby considered the birth of Kira to be the crowning achievement in her life. Libby touched everyone with her humor, compassion, and giving nature. She is loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed.

Libby was born in Spokane, WA on August 27, 1968 and grew up in Merced, CA. She graduated from Merced High School in 1986 where she was voted “most athletic”. She received a tennis scholarship to Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho and later transferred to the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. While there, an interest in science led her to graduate with a B.S. in Bacteriology.

She met her husband, Erik Forsberg, while in Idaho and they moved to Santa Rosa, CA in 1997 where she worked as a Microbiologist for Gallo Sonoma Winery. Libby continued her science career at Stanford University working on the Human Genome Project. While at Stanford, she continued her education and received a Master’s Degree in Teaching. For the past 2 1/2 years, Libby has been teaching AP Biology at Mill’s High School in Millbrae, CA.

She is survived by her husband, Erik Forsberg and their daughter, Kira Rae Forsberg; her father, David Bartley Hamilton of Palm Springs, CA; her mother, Nancy Lee Hawkins and step-father, Ron Hawkins of Merced, CA; 5 siblings, Heather Mackin and brother-in-law Steve Mackin, Keat Hamilton, Cally Hamilton, Scott Hawkins, and Ronnie Hawkins; 2 nephews, Myles Hamilton and Forest Walker; father and mother-in-law, Steve and Ulla Forsberg and brother and sister-in-law, Hans and Tanya Forsberg.
