    Her Story

    [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-story”]Kaylan was 25 yrs, 5 mo, 16 days when she died of untreated depression & OCD, and undertreated anorexia/bulimia – resulting in suicide – in January of 2011. Kaylan’s friends have organized a foundation which organizes benefit concerts in her memory, in order to raise awareness about mental illness and the dangers of self-medicating with alcohol and/or drugs, and to help NAMI fight stigma associated with these treatable medical issues. Kaylan’s two favorite Seattle bands graciously agreed to play the first benefit show which was a huge success, both societally and financially. There are also two KRC4LIFE teams who have committed to walk for NAMI StigmaBusters. One in Denver and one in Seattle. Good job teams KRC! A new annual StigmBusting event has been instituted to celebrate her birthday each July 31st. It is named “International WEAR A TUTU DAY!” The 2011 event was celebrated in three US cities and one European city. People wore tutus in public, talked about Kaylan, and handed out informational flyers about how to find and give help for/to people who suffer mental illness.

    A bit about Kaylan: Kaylan played a mean piano and a cool guitar. Her keyboard compositions are exquisite. She loved the wild outdoors as much as she loved the heart of the city of Seattle. She crawled at 18 weeks and walked at 7 months. She learned to ride her bike without training wheels at 3.5 yrs, because she bent them up her ownself with her daddy’s vice grips. She played roller hockey when she was 9 and developed OCD & depression in the same year. She took beautiful photographs. She sang smooth and haunting harmony. She was extremely shy yet exuded confidence. She took her first college class at 11- poetry of course. She adored junior high stage productions. She was hospitalized for depression at 13. She started smoking at 15 and developed anorexia/bulimia when she was 16. She traveled in Europe for 6 months doing volunteer work in 5 different countries at 18. She went to Guatemala with her younger brother to study Spanish when they were 18 & 19. Her dad died when she was 20, and she never fully recovered from this loss. She achieved her dream of attending the University of Washington linguistics program at age 20, but depression took that away from her in her senior year. From age 21 until her death she lived in Seattle – the city of her dreams. Her last mental health provider fell in love with her and TOLD her, so she would never seek treatment again. She played World of Warcraft with her cousin Matt. She adored her family – immediate & extended. Kaylan lost a baby 6 months before she died, and it seems she suffered from postpartum psychosis but was not able to tell anyone until far too late in her illness.

    She watched The Young Turks every Tuesday. Her favorite fiction authors were Paulo Coelho and Anne McCaffrey. She loved humanity and hated cruelty. She loved all kinds of world music, from classical to rap. She worked as a telemarketer, preschool teacher, construction office manager, sandwich artist, and bartender among other jobs. Being a preschool teacher was her FAVORITE job, and she planned to begin Montessori training in September of 2011. She LOVED children and animals. She was a wonderful cat mama, and her kitties are both very confident, friendly, and like to be kissed on the nose.

    She appears to have been struggling with risky alcohol and medication misuse on and off for ten years, and especially during the last couple years of her life. She was unbelievably beautiful inside and out, but never felt special. The point here is to say that she was not simply a depressed person who took her own life. She was complex, gorgeous, brilliant, talented, delightful, deep, caring, loving, irreverent, kind, free spirit who also happened to suffer from a depression and anorexia/bulimia which were exacerbated by risky alcohol use. HER TRAGIC DEATH FROM DEPRESSION WAS A VERY SMALL PART OF AN ACTIVELY GIVING AND LOVING LIFE, a life in which she touched many other souls and inspired them to do the most with what life offered them. We know this because of the many people have written to her family and friends with memories of her – in detail – about how exactly she helped them. Almost every one of her close childhood friends came to her funeral, reception, and waterside farewell from several different cities, states, and countries.

    Coworkers came from jobs long past, and four of her life loves, past and present, attended her funeral – three of them even managed to perform a beautiful song during the service. It is an enigma – how Kaylan Rose could be so very loved, and so helpful to others, yet be unable to express her own need for help. BUT THIS IS WHAT UNTREATED MENTAL ILLNESS DOES. IT LIES TO THE SUFFERER, TELLING HER THAT SHE IS NOT NEEDED. THAT SHE IS NOT WORTHY. Depression robs people of their feeling of worthiness, but it doesn’t have to be like that. MENTAL ILLNESS IS TREATABLE. EATING DISORDERS ARE TREATABLE. ALCOHOL AND DRUG PROBLEMS ARE TREATABLE. These medical issues are NOT character defects.PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE – ASK FOR HELP IF YOU ARE IN DISTRESS. EVERYONE IS NECESSARY![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-links-header”]

    Her Story

    [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-story”]Mindy Lee Hilton Fowlke of Spanish Fork Utah, left her earthly life after a courageous battle with postpartum psychosis and returned to her Father in Heaven on Wednesday December 6, 2017.

    She was born in Cottonwood Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT on June 27, 1982 to Gary and Kengie Hilton. She was married to her sweetheart, Shane Clark Fowlke, for time and all eternity on May 31, 2003 in the Mount Timpanogos Temple in American Fork, UT.

    Mindy was one of the most amazing women you could have ever known. She was a daughter, sister, friend, wife, and mother. She was genuine and pure. She was light hearted and had a personality that just bubbled over, brightened, and lifted those around her. She was full of energy and had a zest for life. She was absolutely hard to keep up with! Her smile was beautiful and completely contagious! She noticed the little things and found joy in them. She was deeply loyal to her family and friends and was always looking for ways to lift others. She reached out to those who needed. She had no judgment within her, she was understanding, and was able to show empathy easily.

    Her happy place was anywhere her family was, but especially in the mountains. She loved the outdoors fiercely and almost could not be contained inside! She loved long walks, morning runs, and just breathing the fresh air. She and Shane took their family camping as much as was possible. The mountains were their home away from home! She loved her sweet labradors, gardening, a new found love of sewing, and creating a beautiful home for her family.

    She was a wife and mother. Those were the titles she cherished the most. She was beaming with pride and joy over each of her children. She was so playful with them, attentive, and loving. Each of them believed that they were her favorite…they were right. She adored Shane. She was so proud of him in every way. He was truly her “everything”. She believed in him…and still does. She trusted him completely…and still does. He absolutely had her heart…and still does. She will always be right by his side as he continues this journey with their 6 beautiful children. She will be right by their sides too in the small quiet moments of their lives and she’ll be right there celebrating those big ones too!

    Mindy was the 5th of eleven children. Her parents were overjoyed at her arrival! She has 5 sisters and 5 brothers. She was her sister Kimberli’s “twin” four years apart. They shared the same birthday and Kim made sure that the world knew that she would be coming on her birthday! She absolutely loved her parents and siblings and would take any chance she could to be with them. She was one of the most bouncy uncontainable bright spots in the family! She loved her family so much! She loved making the memories we share together. As she leaves, each of her siblings and her parents have no doubt that she loved them unconditionally and huge!!

    Mindy was a truly devoted follower of Christ and loved her Father in Heaven in a very very deep way. She had such a personal relationship with both of Them. Her greatest desire in this life was to please Them and be Their warrior. We have no doubt that she will be on the front lines of the battle that is raging between good and evil here on this earth as she moves on. She is a fighter and a fierce competitor especially for that which is good and right. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her testimony is strong and unfailing. She built it daily, never forgetting to study and pray. She knew exactly who she was!

    She was so excited to be called “mother” by each of her 6 children. They brought her immense joy and gave her love and life. We know that she will greatly miss being here with Hunter Shane (13), Wyatt Todd (11), Zachary Kenneth (8), Kyler Clark (5), Alyssa Kay (4), and Lily Valoy (2).

    She ran through life with her siblings, Alona Reynolds (Aaron) of Cedar Hills UT, Kendra Bullinger (Shawn) of Burlington WY, Kimberli Hughes (Chris) of American Fork UT, Shane Hilton (Megan) of Tempe AZ, Tyler Hilton (Emily) of Montrose CA, Jacob Hilton (Shannon) of Mesa AZ, Analynn Mackprang (Chris) of Eagle Mountain UT, Jared Hilton (Lauren) of Lehi UT, Joseph Hilton of Provo UT, and Sarah Hilton of Cedar Hills UT. Her parents, Gary and Kengie Hilton reside in Cedar Hills UT.

    She loved Shane’s family and was so happy to be a Fowlke. She takes wonderful memories with her of Shane’s parents, Clark and Valoy Fowlke of Woodland Hills UT, and of Ryan Fowlke (Ambre) of Beaver UT, Adam Fowlke of Payson UT, Tyler Fowlke of Springville UT, Cody Fowlke (Amanda) of Orem UT, and Brooke Palmer (Trevor) of Santaquin UT.

    She loved and adored the 33 nieces and nephews that she has and she made sure that each one knew it! She loved the sweet relationship she had with her grandparents Dorothy Virginia Riley of Orem UT and A. Eugene Hilton of Sandy UT. She has many many incredible aunts, uncles, and cousins. She has countless numbers of friends who absolutely love and cherish her.

    She was welcomed on the other side into the arms of the loved ones who went before her. She loved her Grandma Lyda Ruth Patten Hilton, Grandpa Kenneth Jones, Grandparents Paul and Zella Williams, Grandparents Ernest and Lola Fowlke, her uncles Kevin Jones, Jeffrey Jones, John Terry Hilton, Todd Williams, and aunt Lynne Vorwaller. We find great peace and comfort knowing they were waiting there to wrap her in their arms.

    Her Story

    [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-story”]”When my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the Rock that is higher than I. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep [our] hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Ps. 61:21; Phil. 4:7

    With extremely deep hurting hearts, we lost our very sweet Heidi Beth Bickford McGovern on Thurs. Oct. 4, 2018. Born Dec. 15, 1991 to Mitch and Brenda Bickford, Heidi chose to enter Heaven’s gates before she had finished serving her beloved Lord with her many gifts, talents, and beautiful touches. Heidi had so much in store here on earth, yet, she made this decision and God lovingly extended His hand, welcoming her and her precious unborn baby to His eternal Heavenly home. Today and forevermore she lives on in Heaven, finally finding the peace she had so longed, struggled, and searched for. Her place in Heaven was not achieved by being a loving, devoted wife to an amazing husband, Daniel, nor by being a loving, dedicated mommy to Enoch and Ethan, nor by being a very special, caring friend to many, nor for any other reason than that she, as a young child, believed she was a sinner, deserving Hell, accepted God’s gift of Salvation through Christ’s death and resurrection.

    Just a few short weeks ago, Heidi wrote a thought-provoking letter to a special individual, having become deeply concerned for this person’s eternal destiny. In answering the question on how to care for our souls, Heidi’s words were as follows: “Jesus said our souls are very important. The truth is, because of our sin we are lost and will be condemned by God to Hell eternally, unless we repent and put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ. I care about you.” If Heidi could speak today, now that she has seen her Savior face to face, she would present these truths to anyone who crossed her path.

    In addition to her amazing husband, Daniel, and beautiful boys, Enoch and Ethan, she has left behind hundreds of grieving loved ones and friends, including her mom and dad, Mitch and Brenda, who loved her most dearly; sister, Hilde Kelly and husband, Grant, of Lewiston; sister, Haley Sinz and husband, Barak; sister, Holli, and brother, Heath of Lee; very dear aunts and uncles, Paul and Hazel Anderson, Lewiston, Rhonda Colburn, Randolph, John and Holli Ashley, Lake Ariel, PA, Rusty and Joy, Newport; extremely special cousins, Jade, Kara, Lauren, Macy, Ruth-Ann, Heath, Chad, and Tim; very special mom-in-law and dad in-law, Terry and Mariann McGovern, siblings-in-law, Heather and Jordan Philbrick, Rachel and Josiah Jordan, Bethany and Levi.

    Her violin and mandolin lay silent, as well as her sweet soprano voice, but those of us who know the Lord as our Saviour, being born again, will meet her in Glory someday, where we will never have to say “Good-bye” again.

    We greet and part with dear ones;

    We say hello, good-bye;

    And letters bind our fellowship;

    We miss them, though we try

    To feel them always near us,

    And follow them with prayer.

    But parting days are ended

    When we meet them in the air.

    We’ll never say good-bye in glory,

    In the morning, over yonder;

    We’ll never say good-bye in glory;

    We’ll never say good-bye up there.

    Her Story

    [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-story”]Ellen was a gift. An undeniable beauty, equally inside and out.

    She vivaciously  pursued living her best life. To Ellen, that meant prioritizing and committing to those and that which she valued. Ellen valued being present by showing up, she valued progress by always being in motion to move forward and elevate. She valued exploration by how she navigated her life and this world, She valued relationships by how she nurtured them. She valued love. She valued friendship. She valued family.

    She was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, colleague and much more to her community.

    On November 1, 2022, Ellen and her husband , Jordan Robinson, were blessed with the birth of a healthy baby boy.  However, Ellen succumbed to unexpected complications subsequent to birthing and passed on November 9, 2022. A devastating turn of events for her family and loved ones.

    While Ellen’s loved ones grieve her passing, they also look to honor her beautiful life and legacy as well as bring enhanced awareness to the significance of quality postpartum maternal care.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-links-header”]
