    Her Story

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]On January 18, 1988, Todd and Claudia Wilcox brought a beautiful angel into the world named Shannon Victoria. She was born in Oakland, California, and raised in Denver, Colorado. From the time she was little, Shannon always saw the good in hard situations and difficult people. She had a passion for the underdog and stood up to bullies in school to defend those who couldn’t defend themselves. Her ministry started early. She was heavily involved in church youth group and went on many missions trips to serve alongside her family.

Shannon would continue to grow into a beautiful woman, inside and out, while attending Oklahoma Baptist University to pursue a double degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. While there, she met her future husband, Drew, and began dating him after graduating. They would eventually get engaged and be joined in marriage on July, 27, 2013. They were best friends and did life together–joy, hurt, and everything in-between. She also loved serving in ministry with him, as she poured into many lives of young people. In June 2017, Shannon discovered she was pregnant with Asa James, and their lives began to change. They were looking forward to delivering him in February 2018. However, on December 29, 2017, Shannon experienced a tragic and sudden unknown health complication and passed that morning at St. Francis ER. Asa was immediately taken via C-section and fought for his life for 6 days until he went to be with his mommy on January 3rd, 2018.

Shannon was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Samuel Wilcox.

She is survived by her loving husband, James Andrew “Drew” Wright of the home, her devoted parents; Todd Matthew and Claudia Domingo Wilcox of Jenks, OK, 1 brother; Clayton Todd Wilcox of Seattle, WA, 1 sister; Lindsay Nicole Wilcox of Candia, New Hampshire, her mother and father-in-law; William Raymond Wright, Jr. and Susan Lee Wright, 1 brother-in-law; William Casey Wright and her grandparents; Bernice Wilcox, Sidro Domingo and his wife Joyce, Diane Calisesi and William Maxwell.

Shannon and Asa will be forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-links-header”]

    Her Story

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-story”]Sophie Marie Fitzsimmons-Peters, wife of Anton Schneider and mother of Desmond and Josie Schneider, was born on May 28, 1990 and died on July 9, 2024. Sophie’s life was defined by love, kindness, intelligence, and adventure. She was a beautiful woman whose thirty-four years wove a tapestry of humanity.

Sophie is the treasured daughter of Marie Fitzsimmons and Kirk Peters. She is the most beloved sister and sister-in-law of Jores and Carolina Peters and Jared and Katie Peters. She is the aunt of Jori, Santiago, Jovan, Maya, Griffin and Harrison. She was adored by the grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins, and her Peace Corps family. Anton’s family thought the world of her.

Sophie’s home on Seneca Lake extended to the Watkins Glen Schools and her dad’s veterinary clinic. She thrived in the arms of her family, a bounty of friends, and the devotion of her teachers and coaches. She was an accomplished student and a fierce athlete. She loved learning, she loved sports, and she loved her friends. And how we loved her. Sophie had a beautiful childhood.

Sophie attended SUNY Geneseo, where she received a first-rate education and the glorious friendships of her soccer girls. Her semester in Nicaragua enriched her burgeoning global being, and her compassionate nature flourished. Upon graduation, Sophie was accepted as a City Year Volunteer and moved to Detroit, where she met and fell in love with Anton while quietly and effectively lifting up her students at Osborne High School.

Sophie, in the footsteps of her Grandma Janie, earned her Masters of Social Work, graduating from the University of Maryland School of Social Work in 2016. Sophie’s internship in the Maryland Office of the Public Defender cemented her compassion and responsibility to each person she encountered. Sophie went on to work with Catholic Charities of Baltimore as a school-based therapist, extending her counsel to adults in the community.

In 2018, Sophie’s lifelong dream of joining the Peace Corps came to fruition as she and Anton were sworn in as Peace Corps Volunteers in Uganda. Sophie’s position as a literacy educator was deeply satisfying. Her gentle nature, appreciation of her colleagues, and joy of children made her a beloved member of St. Bruno’s Primary School for the two years they lived in Uganda. Sophie’s teaching and coaching were developed with deep respect and collaboration with her fellow teachers and principal. Sophie’s daily work in the school library was joyous and meaningful. Sophie’s Peace Corps Project of building latrines at St. Bruno’s continues to make a difference in the well-being of the school community.

Sophie’s experiences in Uganda, South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia, and Nicaragua shaped her worldview. Her travels to twenty countries filled her spirit and challenged her keen intellect, informing her sense of responsibility as a global citizen.

Sophie and Anton made their home in Baltimore, where she worked as a Program Analyst for the U.S. government, doing the daily work that makes the Affordable Care Act accessible to all.

She appreciated her team and believed in their mission. Sophie’s devotion to our country extended from her daily work to her quiet and steady advocacy for social justice and reproductive rights.

Sophie was a beautiful mother, kind and gentle, patient and playful. She and Desmond had the happiest and most joyous love. Josie’s nine months in the most intimate and rhythmic nurturing of Sophie’s being and brief time in her mother’s arms is a forever imprint of the greatest love.

Sophie was a tender and compassionate wife, thoughtful and pragmatic. She loved Anton deeply and treasured their adventurous yet grounded life in Baltimore. Sophie was proud of Anton’s exquisite teaching in the Baltimore City Schools. She loved their neighborhood and the sweet community that encompassed them. In this past year, their travels with Desmond to France and Scotland brought such happiness.

Our gratitude and wonder for the beauty of Sophie is deep and abiding. Our grief in her passing is profound. The outpouring of your love and support has soothed our hearts and we are so grateful.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-links-header”]

    Her Story

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]The Stacy Zallie Foundation is dedicated to our daughter, Stacy Zallie. At age 20 our beautiful daughter, was the victim of a coerced abortion which violated her personal, moral, and spiritual beliefs.

Stacy was extremely close to her mother and shared with her every aspect of her life as she grew up, from childhood, through adolescence, to young adulthood. We now understand that Stacy was getting pressure to terminate her pregnancy. She felt she could not share this with her mother because there is no way her mother would ever sanction her aborting her child. Also, her mother knew what the prospect of motherhood meant to Stacy. So, therefore, she made the most difficult decision of her young life without the people who truly loved and cared for her.

She underwent her abortion in July of 2001 and asked to see a psychiatrist in late September, obviously knowing she was not doing well emotionally. Shortly after seeing the psychiatrist on a Saturday afternoon she came downstairs from her bedroom and told her mother that she had ingested too many pills. When her mother told me I had immediately called the psychiatrist who then informed me that this was not the first time that she had made suicidal gestures, not attempts, as she had also made some scratches on her wrist. But he assured me that she was not in danger and that she was in good care with him. I now know the suicidal gestures were a cry for help. She didn’t want to take her own life, but she desperately needed help. He instructed me to go to an emergency room where she stayed for four hours. He had every right to put her in the hospital, to consult the family, and perhaps we could have talked her into committing herself to a professional mental health facility where they do nothing but get to the root cause of what is causing the major depression. I later found out only through a court proceeding that she had been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder First Occurrence. Instead of bringing the parents in to discuss her situation and the gravity of it, which is what a psychiatrist can do if someone is in danger of hurting themselves or someone else, in those two occurrences not only do they have the right to breach confidence they have an obligation to do it. So having been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder First Occurrence, which leads to the death of 15% of people diagnosed with it, she was treated like she had a mild case of the blues.

The only reason I talk publicly about her situation is to save another young person from going through the grief, remorse, and depression that Stacy went through, which ultimately led to us losing her. I think people on all sides of this issue can agree that terminating a pregnancy is a difficult decision, and with difficult decisions come repercussions, especially a decision of this magnitude. Perhaps some feel relief while others feel a great sense of remorse and regret that can lead to depression, especially if they are coerced. It would be my wish to have psychiatric screening available at every abortion clinic and mandatory post abortive screening to help anyone who might find themselves in the position our daughter Stacy was in. And I feel I would be remiss in not mentioning the Doctor who he himself performed the abortion on Stacy is none other than Stephen Chase Brigham. To learn more about Brigham just google his name, a real champion of women’s rights!

We are convinced that if Stacy had been better informed about what she might expect following the abortion (physically and/or emotionally) and if she had been able to share her grief in a safe, supportive environment, she would be with us today. In her memory, The Stacy Zallie Foundation and Post-Abortion Comfort Portal provides help after an abortion, including information and resources to anyone grieving or in pain as the result of abortion.
