    Her Story

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]Megan Mann Riggans, 22, of Staley passed away September 2, 2012 from injuries sustained in a car accident on her way to UNC Chapel Hill to deliver her first child.

She was born October 12, 1989, the daughter of David ‘Al’ and Robin Lewis Mann. Megan graduated from Southern Alamance High School in 2007 and helped operate the family farm, Udderly Kool Farms, with her Uncle, Randy Lewis. She was also a waitress at Haley Bales Steakhouse in Siler City.

A respectable leader of the dairy industry and an enthusiast for the Guernsey and Holstein cow, Megan shared this passion through her 15 years in the show ring. Megan’s active involvement in 4-H, FFA, NC Guernsey, and NC Junior Holstein Associations touched many lives. She was a role model for all youth with her endless dedication, willingness to help, and patient nature. Megan had a way of reading people and communicating with them when no one else could. Her love for teaching and motivational spirit was known by all. Megan was a mentor to many young agriculturalists as she helped youth prepare for the show ring and served as a coach for many dairy judging, dairy foods, and dairy quizbowl teams.

The only other aspect of life that Megan was more passionate about was her family. Megan was a loving daughter and granddaughter, a protective big sister, an honest friend, a devoted wife, and she much anticipated her new role in life as a mother.

At the time of her death, she was survived by her husband, Brian Casey Riggans and her newborn son, William Casey ‘Will’ Riggans of the home; her parents, David ‘Al’ and Robin Lewis Mann of Snow Camp; sister, Mikayla Mann of Snow Camp; her maternal grandmother, Faye Lewis of Snow Camp; her paternal grandparents, Alton L. ‘Al’ and Ella Rae Mann of Graham; paternal grandparents, Wilton and Ann Finch of Burlington; a paternal great grandmother, Francis Sharpe of Burlington; and her extended family, Roy and Teresa Riggans and children, as well as several loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a paternal grandfather, William W. Lewis and sister, Melissa Kay Mann.

Megan’s beautiful smile, one of a kind laugh, barefoot and care free spirit will be truly missed by many.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-links-header”]

    Her Story

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]Diana, her husband, their 2 sons & their unborn baby were moving from Gaithersburg, MD, to California when they were killed by a tractor trailer that hit their two cars as they were stopped on the highway for an accident. The truck driver was charged with 5 counts of vehicular homicide & 4 counts of manslaughter & jailed.

Diana was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla with the two boys. Chris was behind her, in their 2010 Ford Mustang. They used walkie-talkies to communicate between the two cars. Both cars were stopped waiting for authorities to clean up a fatal wreck involving two semitrailer trucks.

Another semi approached the stalled traffic from the rear. Other truckers said the rig didn’t appear to slow down before the crash. The semi slammed into the back of Chris’ Mustang, pushing it into Diana’s Corolla.

The collision forced the Corolla to slide under the truck in front of it. The Schmidts were pronounced dead at the scene. Three family pets, two dogs and a cat, also died. All the vehicles burst into flames after the collision.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-links-header”]
