Her Story
Gwyneth Claire Vives of Los Alamos, N.M., and a lifelong summer resident of Eagle River, died Friday, December 21, 2001, in Los Alamos. She was 36.
Gwyneth was a graduate of John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights. After high school, she attended the University of Illinois where she received a bachelor of science degree in engineering physics and a master’s in education. She received her Ph.D. in physics from the University of Florida. For the past 1 1/2 years, she was a Post Doctoral Fellow with the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Gwyneth was a member of the Division of Plasma Physics within the American Physical Society (APS).
She is survived by her husband, Ted Vives; infant son, Alex, both of Los Alamos; father, Wolfgang O. Junkel of Mount Prospect; brothers, Steven Junkel of O’Fallon, Mo. and Eric Junkel of Des Plaines; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Junkel.
