For everything there is a season, a time to live, a time to die… a time to mourn.
Karen Sclafani passed away February 7, 2004, in Bozeman, after having given birth to a beautiful baby girl, Aryana Karen Maffly, on February 5, 2004, from complications of child birth and delivery. She was with her husband, Brian Maffly, her family, and her close friends at the time of her passing.
Karen received extraordinary medical attention at the hospital at the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital, and every effort was made to save her life. The family especially thanks Drs. Stacy Shomento, Garth Olds, and Charles Rinker for the superb medical care they gave Karen, Father Leo Proxelle of Holy Rosary Church and the hospital chaplains for the spiritual support given the family.
Karen leaves behind her loving husband, Brian Maffly; her parents, Tina and Mario Sclafani of South Salem, N.Y.; three sisters, Marie Shaffer of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Joanne Donohoe of Armonk, N.Y., and Susan Stefenson of Westport, Conn.; her in-laws who loved her as family, Lynn Nicholas and Wallace Graham of Salt Lake City, and Donald and Valerie Maffly of Lafayette, Calif.
Karen lived life to the fullest, always on her own terms. She was devoted to outdoor activities. She loved backcountry skiing, hiking and cycling. She had hundreds of loving friends to whom she gave of her warm and wonderful self unstintingly. Karen traveled all over the world and made friends everywhere she went. She will be dearly remembered not just by her loving family, but also by her many friends.
