Her Story

Kathryn “Katie” Marie (Brehan) Flyte, age 27, of Puyallup, WA died August 11, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. Katie was born April 17, 1982; grew up in Burien, attended Hazel Valley Elementary, Ford Middle School and graduated from Franklin Pierce High School in 2000.

Katie is survived by her beloved husband Kenny and children Jacob James (2 years) and Abbigail Marie (1 month), father Jack Brehan (other-mother Sharon), siblings Tad Brehan (Kerry), Dawn Peretti (Rico), Jill Brehan (Greg), Kelly Brehan, Steve Brehan (Kathy), Jeff Ohlinger (Miranda), Shelley Campbell (Mike), Jim Ohlinger (Chris), mother Maryann Anderson, siblings Derek Ollom, Robby Martin (Lisa), Dawn Martin (Shawn), Genevieve Jonker (Mike), Bernadette Khochtali (Mohammed), Christina Beagle, mother-in-law, Tari Flyte, sisters-in-law, Nicola Payette, Rachel Payette, Amanda Edwards and a large extended family.

Seven months into her second pregnancy, Katie was diagnosed with double pneumonia, and later the H1N1 influenza (Swine Flu) and ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome). On June 30th, while Katie was in a chemically induced coma, doctors performed an emergency C-section and delivered 2 lbs.14 oz. baby Abbey. Katie fought a courageous battle that lasted 44 days. Katie’s fighting spirit and story touched many people. The family is so proud of how she lived her life. Her belly laugh and beautiful smile will always be remembered. Katie was a devoted mother and her joyful outlook will live on in her children.
