Her Story
Katrena Elias Jaser Akel, 37, passed away on June 29th, 2017 in Jacksonville, Florida just a few hours after giving birth to her newborn daughter, Mya Katrena Akel.
She was born and raised in Milford, C.T.. Katrena was the wife of Jameel Suhail Akel. They shared 9 beautiful years of marriage together.
She is also survived by her parents, Elias and Alexandra Jaser and her four loving sisters, Najlen, Rebecca, Victoria and Mary. She graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education from Housatonic Community College. Katrena was employed as a preschool teacher at Goddard School in Julington, F.L., where she shared her love for arts and crafts and touched lives, one student at a time.
She will be remembered for her joyful dimples and passion for life. Her infectious smile lit up every room. She loved wholeheartedly and devoted her life to those she loved, especially her family. Katrena unexpectedly made the ultimate sacrifice to be able to provide a sibling to her six-year-old son, Suhail Jameel Akel – a dream her family prayed to have for a long time.
