Her Story

Laura Mae Meyer, 28, died Sunday (Aug. 10, 2008) of postpartum cardiomyopathy, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Laura Mae Meyer was born Feb. 17, 1980, in Mason City, the daughter of David F.H. Meyer Jr. and Rebecca (Kruse) Rachut. She attended Mason City and Forest City schools, and later received her GED. Laura and her significant other of several years, Ron Espinosa, were blessed with three children.

She worked at Good Shepherd as a nurse’s aid until an injury to her back. She wasn’t able to work due to her injury; and became a full-time mom. Her boys are so proud of their mother for always helping others, which Laura continued doing after her death by giving the gift of life to others through organ donation. The three boys are in the loving care of their aunt DeeDee.

In Laura’s younger years, she enjoyed horses and competed in several different events. She loved being a mother, music, dancing, taking great adventures with her friends, socializing and gardening.

She enjoyed helping her family at the farmer’s markets. She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Mason City, where she volunteered for different church activities and events.

She is survived by her mother, Rebecca (Ronald) Rachut of Fertile; father, David F.H. Meyer Jr. of Manly; children, Marcus Espinosa, 9 years, Dominic Espinosa, 4 years, and Avery Espinosa, 2 months; grandmother, Frances Kruse of Mason City; siblings, Delilah “DeeDee” Mead of Mason City, Charmine Schodde of Corcoran, Minn., Danny (Tina) Swartwood of Sugarland, Texas, Travis Ostlund of East Bethel, Minn., Eric Meyer of Wyoming, Minn., Sal (Jenny) Meyer of Winnebago, Minn.; along with several loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her sisters, Annette Meyer and Jeanine Warden; grandparents, David Sr. and Anna Meyer; and her aunt, Phyllis.
