Who She Was

Her Story

On September 27, 2026, our beautiful Maeve Mary Duffy died suddenly at home from a pre-existing heart condition and pregnancy.

Maeve was born December 17, 1992, in Charlottesville, Va., she had unusually long slender fingers and a moon-shaped patch of nonpigmented skin on her head. From her first moments she craved being in motion. She characteristically walked vocalizing or singing with a side-to-side rocking gait. She was spunky, silly and adorable, wearing her boots most of the time on the wrong feet and wearing her lacy slip over her dresses. She made friends easily and loved having sleepovers.

Maeve adored her three brothers Tim, Liam and Seamus. When young they would swing, scooter and ride big wheel trikes together or pretend play in the basement and make short hilarious movies. As adult siblings coming home for short visits, after her parents went to bed, they would reconnect laughing boisterously while sharing stories. Maeve’s father Sean dragged her and her siblings on bike rides and trips. Though Maeve never fell in love with the bicycle, she loved to go for walks around town. Some of her mom’s last memories of Maeve are sharing daily walks full of laughter on the Mill Creek trail along with Chloe and their dog Totoro.

For grade school Maeve attended Berney Elementary School where she made dear friends. In middle school she attended a portfolio based middle school, Palouse Community School. Maeve excelled and loved this learning environment. In high school, Maeve participated in the Sasayama Sister City program developing a passion for Japanese culture and teaching herself kanji.

Maeve adored travel. After graduating from high school, she took a two-week trip to Paris with her mom. She loved speaking French, learning about French culture and Impressionist paintings. Three weeks after her trip to Paris, Maeve took a gap year in Yokohama, Japan, going to a Japanese language school and living with a host family.

Back from Japan, Maeve attended WSU for a bit where she met Nick Jackson. Maeve and Nick moved to Walla Walla in the spring of 2014. On Nov. 26, 2014, their daughter, Chloe Duffy-Jackson was born. They had a short marriage from 2016-18, but remained friends and Chloe shared equal time between her parents. Maeve continued her education at WWCC, working on an early education degree. Maeve was a cherished preschool aide and then teacher at Kid’s Place for 10 years. She used her lovely singing voice to gather her charges for circle time.

Maeve loved being a mom. She and Chloe were unusually close. They especially loved to shop and get coffee and watch movies together. They both loved fashion and took care in their dress and appearance. Maeve at the time of her death was in love with David Miranda. Maeve and David were getting ready to blend their families together with Chloe and David’s children Julian Jayme, David Antonio and Camila Eve.

Maeve had a warm presence as well as a ready laugh. She was proactive and positive, fiercely independent, kind and curious. She will remain an enigma as she was often very private, and awed her family with her incessant research, increasing her wide range understanding and interests. She read widely in her free time from many genres, though favored mysteries. She will be missed by so many.

She is survived by her parents; Mary Ann and Sean Duffy, her brothers, Tim, Liam and Seamus, her daughter Chloe, her grandmother Yvonne Duffy, her ex-husband Nick Jackson, her boyfriend David Miranda, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Ray Cromley and Tom Duffy and her grandmother, Helen Sue Cromley.
