Her Story
Shannon Mary Collier (Stone) of Madison, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on June 19th, 2022, at the age of 31 due to rare postpartum complications. Her newborn son, Stone Charles Collier, is a healthy, happy, perfect baby boy.
Shannon was born in Madison, Wisconsin, on January 17th, 1991, to Michael and Natalie Stone. Shannon graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 2009. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where she received her BS in Education. She also completed her Masters in Education Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2019.
Like her father, Shannon was a lifelong learner. She had planned to go back to school to complete her doctorate. Shannon was a passionate and adamant supporter of public education. She had a tremendous impact on countless students and colleagues in a positive and profound way. She had aspirations of becoming a collegiate professor, to teach future teachers.
Shannon dedicated nine years to teaching middle school at Nikolay Middle School in Cambridge and at Lake Mills Middle School. She most recently served as an assistant principal, with JEDI, where she was able to help countless students adapt and thrive in e-learning. Shannon’s teaching philosophy was to build strong relationships through empathy, caring and trust.
While attending UW-Whitewater, Shannon met the love of her life, Kent Charles Collier. Shannon and Kent finished their last years of college together and returned to Madison to build their life. They married on July 23, 2016. Shannon and Kent had a beautiful, happy, loving marriage. They were so excited to have children and start the next phase of their story. Shannon and Kent loved to do all things Madison including: attending Badger games, festivals, taking trips to the farmers market, enjoying sunsets at Memorial Union, exploring new restaurants, and taking countless excursions with their four legged family members: Abby, Millie, and Macie.
Shannon enjoyed numerous passions in life, most notably were music, travel, and teaching. In high school, she played clarinet in a touring marching band and she sang in pep band. She continued to flex her singing talent around the house or the occasional karaoke outing. She had the most beautiful voice.
Shannon loved to travel and some of her favorite trips included a trip to NYC for New Year’s Eve, honeymooning in Maui, and a trip to Paris. She loved to have new experiences with the people she loved.
Shannon’s favorite activity was spending time with her favorite people. Whether it was going to the bookstore or a movie with her dad, shopping with her mom, going out for coffee or dinner with friends, or spending quality time with Kent. Shannon always wanted to be surrounded by her loved ones.
Shannon was a beacon of light and life. Her smile and infectious laugh would light up any room she entered. Her love, kindness, and bubbly personality resonated with her every interaction. She had the uncanny ability to make anyone’s day better. She was the most genuine person and wore her heart on her sleeve. She loved and cared about you and she made sure you knew it.
Shannon will be missed dearly by all those she loved and impacted. Her students, co-workers, friends, her family and her husband and son.
Shannon is survived by her husband Kent, newborn son Stone, mother Natalie, brother Sawyer, uncle Mitchell (Annette) Stone, aunt Julie (Daniel) Busch, cousins Andrea and Tucker Stone and Jacob Busch, mother-in-law Silvia (Andres) Collier, brother-in-law Christian Collier as well as so many other close family and friends.
Shannon was preceded in death by her father, both paternal and maternal grandparents.
