    Her Story

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-story”]In the summer of 2001, Jennifer Mudd Houghtaling, suffering from post partum depression, took her life and left behind a son, husband and grieving family. Since then, Jennifer’s parents, Dr. Charles and Joan Mudd, have spent countless hours researching services and support groups that could have helped Jennifer and other women suffering this disease. They learned there’s a gap in this area of mental health and have donated their time and money to help fill that gap.

The Jennifer Mudd Houghtaling Postpartum Depression Program was established at NorthShore University HealthSystem to serve as support for women in crisis and to implement screening to identify women before their condition becomes critical.

“My hope is that no other woman will have to suffer in silence and shame and terror from a disease that comes out of nowhere,” said Mrs. Mudd. “I want to ensure that a mother can be taken care of body and soul and will never suffer the way Jennifer suffered. I don’t want to see that pain in any face again.”

NorthShore University has a 24 hour crisis hotline where they can help you find the help you need.  Please call them at  866.364.MOMS (6667).

    Her Story

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]In Dec. 2001, Tatia Oden French entered a well-known and well-respected hospital to deliver her first child. She was 32 years old, in perfect health, and looking forward to a natural childbirth, without any interventions or drugs. There were no problems during the pregnancy. According to her doctor’s calculations, she was a little under 2 weeks overdue. She was given the drug Cytotec to induce her labor. Cytotec, also known as Misoprostol, is a drug manufactured to treat ulcers. It is NOT approved by the FDA, or the drug company, to induce labor. Ten hours after being administered Cytotec, Tatia suffered hyper-stimulation of her uterus, an amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) was released, an emergency C-Section was performed because the baby was also in distress. Both Tatia and her baby Zorah died in the operating room.

The Tatia Oden French Memorial Foundation, a non-profit corporation, was formed in March 2003 to give ALL women of childbearing age complete information concerning medical interventions and drugs which are administered during childbirth. We do this hoping that women may then be able to make FULLY informed decisions regarding the birth of their children.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-links-header”]
