    Her Story

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-story”]Alexandra “Allie” Porter Wahlig passed away on July 21, 2024, in Rochester, Minnesota, at the age of 29 from complications related to labor. Born on January 23, 1995, in Webster, Texas, Allie was the most passionate, kindhearted, and joyful person her friends and family had the honor of knowing.

Allie grew up in San Antonio, Texas where she attended high school at Antonian College Preparatory graduating in 2013. She then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering from Rice University in 2017 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law in 2020. Her passion for innovation, engineering, and the legal field propelled her into a fulfilling career as a licensed patent attorney. She worked as an associate at Norton Rose Fulbright where she quickly befriended a number of colleagues and became a valued member of the legal community in both Texas and Minnesota.

Allie’s professional accomplishments were significant, yet it was her personal life that truly defined her. She is survived by her loving husband, Brian Wahlig, and their cherished daughter, Emma Porter Wahlig. Allie was a dedicated daughter to her parents, Michelle (Sanchez) and Patrick Porter, and a nurturing and fun-loving sister to William and Elizabeth Porter. Her grandmother, Santos Porter, always held a special place in her heart. Allie’s in-laws, Joe and Laurie Wahlig, along with brothers and sister-in-law Stephen, Jack, and Abby Wahlig, will remember her in their hearts forever. Her beloved dog, Murphy, was a constant and faithful companion and never failed to put a smile on her face. Allie’s extended family and wide circle of friends will forever miss her warmth, kindness, and spontaneous phone calls or texts.

Allie’s love for life, friends, and family was evident in her many interests and the way she chose to spend her time. She was happiest surrounded by those she loved, whether it was enjoying a cup of coffee, shopping, going for a walk, visiting the farmers market, or simply sharing in the joy of everyday moments. She had a love for travel, always eager to explore novel places and celebrate special events with her loved ones. Brian hopes to one day show Emma many of the places he and Allie made lasting memories.

Allie’s impact on the world was profound, and her legacy will be carried on not only through Emma but also through the countless lives she touched with her vivacious spirit and compassionate heart. Her laughter, intelligence, and unwavering support for those she loved will be deeply missed. As we bid farewell to Allie, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest. She leaves behind a legacy of love, a blueprint for living life with purpose, and a reminder to cherish every moment we have with our loved ones. Rest in peace, sweet Allie. Your light will continue to shine in the hearts of those you have left behind. We are all so lucky to have had time with such an amazing woman.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-links-header”]

    Her Story

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]Catherine A. Gaskins was with us from August 14th 1979 until December 21st 2016 when, due to complications in the operating room surrounding a lost pregnancy, it was her time to pass.

She leaves behind family members in many corners of the world including her mother Jenny, father Mike, her aunt Ness, her brother Rug, and her oldest sons Nathan and Daniel in South Australia where she spent the first few decades of her life. Additionally she leaves behind her two younger sons Kynto and Aizen in America and her devoted life partner Jake (BB) and their infant daughter Zoe. She will be immensely missed by everyone who knew her well.

She was a very loving and giving person, never shying away from helping anybody in need, even at times to the detriment of herself. She was a mother first and foremost. She loved all her children very much, and not a day went by that they weren’t in her thoughts. Even though she could not be with her sons as much as she wanted, she spoke well of them and often. Her life was full of stress and difficulty beyond what most people could handle, but she maintained a persevering attitude and endured all but her final struggle with resilience and tenacity. A part of her will continue to live on with her children and in our memories. We miss you SO much Catherine![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-links-header”]

    Her Story

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]Susan Goodrich, 46, of Marquette, died Sunday, January 11, 2009, after giving birth to her son, Charles Moses Martin Goodrich.

An associate professor of modern languages and literature at Northern Michigan University since 1998, Susan was recognized for her dedication to innovative teaching, her commitment to a proactive, highly qualified faculty, and her key role in internationalizing the curriculum.

Susan was a Latin American scholar who traveled widely. In 2008 with her family in tow, she conducted grant-based research in Spain and gave a scholarly paper in Costa Rica. She recently received the TLC Award from Northern for exemplary use of notebook computers in teaching for her project “Brazilianizing the Curriculum: Integrating Online Authentic Cultural Resources into Language Coursework.” Designed for an accelerated Portuguese language language classroom, the project linked language instruction, living culture, and Brazil’s role in the world. She frequently took students abroad, including a trip to Peru in 2006, in which she divided teaching duties with her historian husband. Susan earned her doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley, her master’s degree from Middlebury College, and her bachelor’s degree from Cornell University.

Susan was outspoken with a marvelously acerbic wit. She was imaginative, perceptive, and articulate, and peppered her conversations with stories from the literature she taught. She was a loyal and kind-hearted friend, with a calming presence and a mirthful giggle. She loved her family and reveled in watching her children explore the world. She was a devoted advocate for the needs of her children, and a conscientious, supportive mother.

Susan is survived by her infant son Charles Moses Martin Goodrich, her daughters Julia Charlotte Martin Goodrich and Emma Rose Martin Metcalf, and her son Nicholas William Martin Metcalf, her husband, Robert Goodrich, her parents Florence and Thomas Martin of Winchester, MA, her sister Judy Martin and nephews Timothy and Taylor Holdaway of Tucson, AZ, brothers Gary Martin of Arlington, MA, and Tom Martin of Oakland, CA, and aunt Geraldine Sullivan of Winchester, MA.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”profile-links-header”]
